Use a manual chair? Need an assist?

image of woman using power assist wheelchairFor individuals who cannot easily manage a power chair, or for those who find pushing their manual chairs difficult, here is a new option. Outfitted with e.motion® power-assist wheels (www.frankmobility.com), my manual wheelchair can be propelled with very little effort. The power assist wheels slip on and off just like the standard wheels do. Power can be set for 50 or 80% assist and can be adjusted to compensate for unequal arm strength. The two disc-size batteries are easily charged on or off the wheels and can be put in or taken out while sitting in the chair. Friends can easily disassemble the entire wheelchair and put it into a car. No van or lift needed!

Jane D., Baltimore, Maryland: “The results of using this system have been a decrease in pain in my damaged shoulders, greater comfort navigating around my apartment and more freedom on excursions. My fatigue has been reduced and I sleep better.”
