Post-Polio Health International is pleased to invite you to a special Zoom conversation with Scot Danforth, author of An Independent Man: Ed Roberts and the Fight for Disability Rights, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM CST.
An Independent Man tells the story of Ed Roberts, a polio survivor whose leadership helped shape the modern disability rights and independent living movements. The book traces Roberts’s journey from childhood through his student activism at UC Berkeley to his role as a national advocate for independent living, highlighting how personal experience, collective action, and determined advocacy laid the groundwork for lasting change.
Scot Danforth is the Jack H. and Paula A. Hassinger Chair in Education and Professor of Disability Studies at Chapman University. His latest work brings both scholarly insight and deep respect for the lived experiences that fueled the disability rights movement.
This special webinar offers PHI members a unique opportunity to hear directly from the author, learn more about the history behind the independent living movement, and reflect on its continued relevance for the post-polio community today.
We hope you’ll join us for this engaging and meaningful discussion!
