WE'RE STILL HERE! 2024 - Third Place

THANKFUL

I can walk. I feel fortunate to have that ability. But now breathing is getting harder. I enjoy using my scooter, as it helps me get around more easily. Also, it can carry the weight of my supplemental oxygen.

While on a recent cruise, I loved being able to scoot up the long hallways, stem to stern, on the ship. I had a fun time exploring while my friend was laid up for the day feeling seasick. I could run out and bring her seasick pills to her. The pills worked, and we both ended up having a wonderful time. Other passengers envied me on my scooter in the hot climates where I could whip around on my wheels.  Actually, many of the older folks on the cruise used walkers, wheelchairs and scooters. In the evenings many of these aids were parked next to the theater for the nightly entertainment. Our cruise line, Holland America, caters very well to older people and those with disabilities. Crew members were always ready to assist on ramps in port.

I also use my scooter when at the mall. I can scoot around the whole mall and carry shopping bags on my handlebars. My GoGo scooter breaks down into four pieces, which I can easily fit into the back of my car. I feel very thankful.
